"⚠️ Warning ⚠️ Stay far away from this insurance agency, and especially Dave Stanbury. When it comes to the insurance world, one of the most important aspects is customer service. The moment you lose your ability to provide good customer service, you lose your ability to be effective in business. State Farm was recommended to me by multiple others in my industry here in Western New York and Western Pennsylvania as a great option for small business insurance. When researching my options on State farm's website I see that right now they are specifically advertising small business insurance for my business. While setting up a policy for a recent move, I requested a quote on business liability insurance to cover my advertising and marketing company. This junior agent asked me almost no questions. He asked me the business name, whether we had a website, what we did, and the value of our items, which made little sense to me in the context of the coverage I was requesting, but I went along with it. Not only did it take almost a week to get a response from Dave, who I was told handled the business insurance side, but when we finally did get a response back, we were denied based on underwriting reasoning that did not seem to fit what we actually do as a business. Dave sent an email stating that State Farm does not offer coverage for businesses involving TV filming equipment or radio equipment, which again did not seem to apply to my business or to the type of liability coverage I had requested. So I reached out because there had to be some mistake. We are a small business that has been in operation for a few years, and we are an advertising and marketing agency. That was made clear. Dave then told me that State Farm had found a website registered under my business's name, and that the website showed photos of a TV studio, which did not match my understanding of my business presence online or what was later sent to me. I asked him to provide a written explanation, as well as proof of what he was referring to. He then said he would send me a link to the website that had my name and everything they were talking about on it. Based on that conversation, I expected to receive something entirely different from what was actually sent. When I received the email, Dave had sent me a Facebook page from when I first started the business. If you look at that Facebook page, the only photos anywhere on there are photos of a sunset and photos of children in schools and youth programs where I had done photography work. There were no photos of a studio and nothing at all that matched what I had been told. When I tried to explain to him that I had worked in property insurance within this decade for about five years, and that underwriting should be based on accurate information about a customer, he proceeded to tell me that State Farm does not offer this coverage and that they can make a decision on anyone based on those factors. State Farm advertises small business coverage for businesses like mine. The problem here, based on my experience, is that somebody in Dave's office, or Dave himself, appears to have classified my business as something that has nothing to do with what my business actually is. Needless to say, complaints are being filed, and this should be a lesson for Western New Yorkers looking to protect their business. When you're purchasing insurance, you need to go with somebody who is honest, accurate, and willing to ask the right questions. Your insurance agent should gather all pertinent information. They should ask you questions about your business, your different types of risk exposure, foot traffic, what you do, and all kinds of determining questions so your policy can be properly underwritten. From my perspective, I was given explanations that changed over time, and when I challenged what I was told, the response I received only made the situation worse. This was a very bad business experience all around. Insurance is already frustrating enough. We do not need this on top of it."
